The true definition of enlightenment depends on the person translating it. For some it means one thing, for others another; yet there are certain destinations around the world which exhibit a certain spiritual significance, prompting many to take a journey to be a part of it. Here’s a run down of seven destinations around the world to help you find enlightenment!

Uluru - Australia

Uluru, Northern Territory

On the other side of the world, many Australians feel a spiritual and mystical connection with Uluru, known also as Ayers Rock. The large, world-renowned sandstone slab is sacred to the Aboriginal tribes in the area and is home to tribal paintings and waterholes. Much of the area prohibits photography from tourists as dictated by traditional Aboriginal beliefs.
Stonehenge, Wiltshire, England 1987

Stonehenge, Wiltshire

Starting a little closer to home, Stonehenge in Wiltshire is an iconic monument that has been standing since 2500BC. Many make up different reasons for the significance of the large, bulky rock formation, ranging from the way it works as a solar calendar to the sacred vibes within the stone arrangement.

Sanctuary Of Apollo, Delphi

Remaining in Europe, Greece is an obvious hot-point in terms of spiritual importance. The country is steeped in a rich mythology which is showcased proudly through the numerous World Heritage Sites housed within the nation such as the Sanctuary of Apollo monument at the Delphi site. The ruins are full of wondrous stories about Greek Gods and guardians; it is said that this site was home to an oracle of men which Apollo had taken from a serpent.

Bodhi Tree, Bihar

India is the home of Siddhartha Gautama who achieved enlightenment and ascended into a higher plain of reality as the Buddha. There is a tree in India, known as the Bodhi Tree, which is believed to be directly linked to the same tree which the Buddha received his spiritual promotion. The power and spiritual intensity that it generates for those who visit it is said to be quite a unique experience and with such a famed history, it's not hard to see why.

Macho Picchu, Peru

The Americas are featured heavily in spiritual tours due to the renowned history and culture embodied by the natives and their monuments. Peru, home to the fascinating Machu Picchu site houses many of these monuments. The ancient city of Machu Picchu, situated high in the mountains, is said to have been built on a sacred site which held a commanding astrological importance for the country's lost tribes. The awe-inspiring site was also claimed to be the home of the tribes' Gods

. Sedona Ridge

Sedona, Arizona

In North America, New Age thinkers believe that the Power Vortexes in Sedona, Arizona, contain mystical energy. There are four vortexes in total, each representing singular points of masculine/feminine energy. Many believe that this space is perfect for meditation and spiritual healing. With many reasonably priced airlines available for travelling to some of the less-popular areas of North America such as Arizona, this place is also becoming an increasingly targeted tourist destination.
